Djamel Mesbah, Sampdoria
A rivalry like no other...
Djamel Mesbah's claim to fame in the Vobley-verse, is undoubtedly his rivalry with the legendary Francesco Totti. This may sound odd, but in the eyes of the Vobley it is the perfect match up.
Djamel Eddine Mesbah started his professional career in Switzerland, although some have suggested he intended to go to Sweden. The Algerian had spent his youth career in France, and did not establish himself in spells at Servette or Basel. He finally became a regular starter at Aarau, in their relegation season, before moving on to Luzern...where he once again failed to earn a place in the team (foreshadowing?). Soon it was time for him to truly live out his destiny, as he moved to Italy. After going on loan at Avelino, he signed for Lecce. His performances and versatility earned him an international call up for Algeria and a move to Italian giants AC Milan.
He was thrust into the Champions League, where he was well out of his depth against the likes of Walcott. He only appeared 9 times in the league before he moved to Parma in 2013. But it was his move to Milan that sparked one of the greatest feuds FIFA has seen. Featuring on the left of Milan's defence, who would ever think that when confronted with Francesco Totti, an immense battle of dribbling and tackling would take place? Some criticise the accuracy of FIFA, but surely this was a match up that would be immensely entertaining. whoscored.com lists tackling as one of Mesbah's strengths, so perhaps he would not be too far out of his depth.
Alas it appears that it is pure fantasy that places Totti and Mesbah head to head. But The Vobley will take great interest in Mesbah's career, hoping that one day "The Match" will indeed take place.
